History
‘Il Vecchio Frantoio’ ( the old olive mill) dates from the second half of the 17th century and is one of the last of its kind in Italy. A visit to the mill and the surrounding buildings takes the visitor back into history, as if time had stopped.
In the evening, when the Frantoio is beautifully illuminated, you will have the experience that long gone times revive again.
Unfortunately there is no documentation left, so fantasy and curiosity will be stimulated to wonder how people lived and worked here hundreds of years ago. How did they manage to get the heavy millstones up here? How was the big marble bath, that was used to wash the olives, brought up?
Questions not to be answered, but of which you can philosophise in the beautiful gardens of the Frantoio.
The four apartments have been beautifully and tastefully rebuilt in Tuscan style, maintaining an authentic atmosphere. A perfect mix of ambiance and tradition in contemporary Tuscany.
