Buti
Already mentioned in Dante’s "Divine Comedy", Buti is one the most beautiful villages in the region of the "Monte Pisane". The village is nicely situated and has a lively community including, for example, a delightful theatre, a pleasant “Borgo” and Medici-villa, numerous restaurants and churches worth seeing.
The highlight of the many festivities is the “Palio di San Antonio” in January. In the morning, before the riders take the course, there is the parade of all participants, dressed in their magnificent medieval costumes.
From the culinary perspective, Buti is a true paradise. No less then 7 restaurants are within easy walking distance. People from Lucca and Pisa drive to Buti to dine here.
Buti is also situated along the “strada di olio”, and is world famous for its olive oil which is much used in the superb Italian cuisine.
The Rio Magno, which runs through the village, has its source in the nearby Monte Serra, a beautiful region with walnut trees and many hiking and mountainbike trails.
At only 10 minutes driving distance from Buti, traversing the beautiful Monte Pisane, you will find Calci with its famous Carthusian monastery built in 1336, where the famous artist Escher got his inspiration.
